Renae Whittington grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, with her two siblings and parents. She is a proud alumna of Bowie High School and the University of Rochester. She was awarded a full-tuition scholarship through the Posse Foundation. During her time at the University, she obtained two Bachelor of Arts degrees - one specializing in Psychology and the other focusing on Public Health. While in college, she was a dance team member, directed a musical revue, published her first co-op piece, and attended a discussion featuring one of her role models - Dr. Angela Davis. One piece of advice that has always stuck with Renae is when Dr. Davis explained that the most effective way to create positive change in the world was to impact younger generations. This wisdom inspired her to continue her studies at the University of Rochester and discover her passion for cultivating a more inclusive world of higher education through mentoring youth and facilitating more access to higher learning institutes for diverse students.
Renae is also a proud member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Before her role as a College Access Coach, and she served as an Information Analyst, a Technical Research Assistant, and a Registered Behavior Technician. Outside of FGCB, Renae can be found playing with her niece and nephews, baking a new recipe, driving around in her beetle, or making a new craft.
Fun Fact: Renae’s high school superlative was “Most Likely to Change the World.”
